Ireland – First day (Monday)

As I said in the last post, we just got in at 6:15 am, by the time we collected all of our luggage, it was closer to 7:15.  Matt and Marty were the first two people we saw at the airport.  Sarah and Fergus (Herma’s parents) met up with us shortly after.  They needed to bring both vehicles as our luggage would have taken too much room and we wouldn’t have been able to fit all of us in one car.  Miina slept pretty well so she was in a good mood, Morgan also slept a bit so she was excited to see Uncle Matt and chattered the entire time.  The Ryans’ house was just about 20 minutes from the airport so it didn’t take very long to get there.

Their house is very cute.  It’s a dark red ramble style cottage type house.  It sits off a very busy streat, but because there are so many bushes and trees it’s very quiet.  The house dates back to 1910 and they have been living in it for close to 30 years now.  All the houses are drafty as it doesn’t get too cold to require constant heating.  There is a great fire place in their “sitting room” and they use electric blankets when needed.  Each room has a door and they usually close them to keep the warmth in the rooms, which makes the house a fun maze for Morgan.

The first few hours we were there we ate some breakfast and just spent some time getting adjusted to our new surroundings.  Sarah made breakfast for us, she made scrambled eggs, sausage and some very good bread.  Morgan ate a ton of scrambled eggs and kept asking for more until she was just so full she could barely move. Josh took a bit of a nap and Morgan joined him after she was finished eating.  After they slept for a little while, we decided to go into town and walk around a bit.  We took the train down to the city, and Morgan had a great time on the train.  She sat with Uncle Matt and asked question after question.  Our first stop was a bank to get some money exchanged.  Then, because it was SO cold and windy, Josh and Matt went off to get their tuxes fitted and we stayed to do some shopping.

Afterwards, we met up at a store and went down into the cafe’ in the basement for a snack before heading home.  We ended up getting home pretty late, and we were all very tired!  We had been walking all day, and had to walk back to the Ryans’ house from the train which was a bit of a walk.  Sarah made spaghetti for dinner, so Morgan ate very well.  After dinner, we got everyone ready for bed and turned in early.  Morgan was out before we even shut off the lights.  We were out shortly after that.  Miina woke up within an hr of going to sleep so I got up with her.  She took a bottle and within about 1.5 hrs, she was back to sleep and so was I.  Morgan kept waking up and said she couldn’t sleep.  I think she was SO tired that she just couldn’t stay sleeping.

Busy day planned for day 2, so we needed to get as much sleep as we could.

Ireland – Travel day

Our trip to Ireland has finally come!

We were fortunate enough to have some help in the packing and getting ready for the trip. My parents came down the Tuesday night to help watch the kids and whatever else we needed done. I was finished packing Morgan and Miina by Friday night. We just had some laundry to finish for our suitcases so we waited until last to work on those.

5:30am came quickly Sunday morning. Josh was up early with Miina because she doesn’t sleep much anymore. We woke up my parents and the whirlwind began. We had to make sure we had everything, and be sure we sent everything up with my parents for Toby (Thankfully they were taking him while we are gone).

We got all packed up and made it to the airport by 8am. We got checked in and passed security without any issues. Once through security, we found somewhere to eat and kill some time before our flight. When we got to our gate there were already a bunch of people there – it was a completely full flight. Morgan and Josh were separated from me. Miina and I were back in the middle of the plane while Josh and Morgan were in the front, right behind business class/first class. I was lucky to get on early and not have problems getting settled. Josh ended up sitting next to a very nice lady with a 7 week old baby. I sat next to a mom who was traveling with her husband and young daughter. She was obsessed with watching Miina and wanted to see her the whole flight. Both of our kids did amazingly well. Miina slept through take off and most of the beginning of the flight. She woke for the last half hr or so but was in good spirits. I got up and walked with her a bit to keep her from getting upset. She was a hit on the plane. Everyone thought she was so cute. I was standing in the aisle and the man across from us was talking about how he remembered when his kids were the age of Miina and there he was, flying home from checking out colleges for his oldest. Families were all spread throughout the plane, so we didn’t feel too bad. I don’t think one family managed to sit together other than one. We got a nice snack though. A turkey sandwich with carrots and M & Ms. Miina fell asleep while I was standing in the aisle, so I just woke her up a bit to feed her while we made our way down. She was out until we got off the plane.

Once we got into the Newark airport, we found our gate and then went in search for a place to eat. We found a nice little dinner and grabbed something quickly. We had plenty of time, but wanted to be sure we got everything done we wanted to. This flight was also full, so I made sure to get in line quickly to get situated before everyone else got on. Once we sat down, it seemed to take forever for Josh and Morgan to make their way on the plane. A bunch of people went in front of them (who didn’t have small children) so they had to wait. They sat right in front of us, which was nice to be all together incase we needed to back eachother up this time. I was very lucky and ended up with an empty seat next to me. Since I am short enough, I was able to lay down to some degree and got somewhat comfortable for a few hours. I managed to get about an hour or a bit more of sleep on the flight. It was about 5 hrs and 40 minutes, but didn’t seem to take very long at all. Everyone loved Miina and Morgan, mostly because they were completely amazing on the flight. They didn’t really make any noise or have any problems! Miina slept most of the flight. She didn’t wake up until there was just an hour left in the flight. She was wet, and hungry – but most of all ….nosey. She wanted to see what was going on. She was having fun charming everyone. Once we got off the plane, it was a journey down to the customs area. The guy literally looked at us, and that was it. Someone else checked our passports and we were on our way. We got in 15 minutes earlier than we were supposed to (around 6;15am Ireland time), so we waited around a bit for Matt to come get us. He came with Marty, and Sarah and Fergus Ryan followed.

Overall it was a great flight (both of them) and a great experience!!! Continental airlines is great, and we are happy everything went well.

Baby’s First Halloween

Last Friday was Miina’s first Halloween. She used Morgan’s peapod costume, one of the many hand-me-downs. It was more of a themed costume because Morgan was a princess. The princess and the pea(pod). You may remember it from a Bee Movie, or just Google it, I had to.

Anyway, Leslie took the girls around the neighborhood. It was such a beautiful night, temps in the 50s. They must have been gone for 45mins or more. Miina did great and Morgan got lots of candy.

Tomorrow is another first, Baby’s first Election….can’t wait!

Big Day for Miina

Yesterday was a huge day for Miina. While I was at work, Josh stayed home with the girls as he always does. Well, he put Miina on the floor to play with some of the toys we’d found in the basement. She does this new thing where she grabs her legs, while laying on her back, and rocks back and forth. Well this time, she rocked enough to one side that she rolled right over. We knew she was close so it was just a matter of time. I’m glad he got to see her roll over first, since I’m home with them during the day, he’ll miss out on a lot of the “firsts” for her.

Josh and I had decided we should start giving Miina cereal to see if that would help her get on a better schedule for eating and sleeping. Last night was our first night trying cereal. It went very well. She didn’t protest at all, and seemed to like it. She shuddered a few times, maybe at the taste, or the texture, but other than that seemed to do very well. I have no clue how much she actually ate, if she honestly swallowed any but at least it’s a start. We’ll give her cereal twice a day from now on, and hopefully she’ll start sleeping more than 6 hrs at night.

Finally, the last major event for the day. We put Miina in the bathtub for her first tub bath. We had a tub chair type thing we used for Morgan so we put her in that, and let her bathe with Morgan. Morgan loved it, because when she was done washing all her tub toys, she got to wash Miina. Miina liked it too. It was much faster than the sponge baths we’d been giving her because we can’t find our baby bath tub. Washing her fingers and toes (which are by far her dirtiest parts) was so much easier. She was only in there for a few minutes – just long enough to get washed up and then she started getting upset. She still can’t sit up on her own yet, and it bugs her when she isn’t stable, so having us hold her just makes her mad. Wonder where she gets that independence from – Morgan!!!

After I dropped Morgan off at preschool, I came home and realized that the shoulder harness on Miina’s car seat needs to be adjusted already. I had to move it up, into the next highest section. She’s growing so fast it’s hard to keep up (as is evident by the months of missing blog postings). Soon we’ll be in Ireland, then Thanksgiving and Christmas, Miina will be 6 months old and we’ll be half way through the preschool year. Welcome fall!!!

Again?

So the other day I was on the couch feeding Miina, when Morgan ran to the back door, look out and said “ugh, again?!?!?”. I didnt know what she was complaining about. She runs over to me and says “Daddy, why does the sun go down on that side” LOL…I tried to contain my laughter. I couldn’t believe her reaction. I just wonder what she was expecting, “maybe today it will go down on the other side”. I didn’t know what to say to her. I couldn’t just give her the scientific answer. “Well Morgan, you see, the Earth is actually spinning and blah blah blah. So I just said, “the sun rises on that side of the house and sets on the other. That’s just the way it is.” Every day she is getting smarter and smarter. She’s already calling us out on things, usually she gets distracted and we can get away with stuff, but a few time we have had to consede and say. “Yes, Morgan you are right”

Miina’s 2 month visit

Miina’s check up went well. She’s 11.6 lbs and 22 inches long. That puts her in the 75th percentile for weight and 50th for height and head size. She’s growing SO fast!

We were lucky enough to get into see the doctor we take Morgan to, so they will have the same doctor. Morgan was excited to be there, maybe because it wasn’t for her..heheh. Morgan was sitting on the doctors chair, pretending to be the doctor until he came in. She was excited to see him when she came in. Miina didn’t really care much until he started to examine her. She squirmed a bit, but did pretty good over all. She ended up getting three shots, two in one leg, and one in the other. She also had an oral rotovirus dose. She did pretty well with that, according to the nurse. She said most kids either make themselves so sick they spit it all back out, or they will not even swallow it to begin with. Miina spit a little out, but took most if it. That’s a new vaccine since Morgan was little. She did not like the shots. She screamed bloody murder. Even Morgan felt bad for her. Once we got her dressed she was fine.

Her next appointment is not until her four month visit.

Leslie and Miina in the OR

Here’s a quick video of Miina’s first moments in the OR with Leslie

Leslie and Miina in the OR

Welcome Miina

We welcomed Miina Vine Pokorny into our family at 4:56am, on Saturday, June 7, 2008.

Friday night (June 6th) was pretty much like every other night for the last few weeks of the pregnancy, uncomfortable and sleepless. For some reason, Friday night I was having more trouble than usual falling asleep. I tried changing positions, adding/removing pillows, stretching, even going to the bathroom multiple times and nothing worked. I kept experiencing what felt like cramping, so I figured I had gas. I had also been having cramps which were increasing over the past few weeks, along with the back pain and regular contractions. I figured it was just one of the above and tried to get comfortable. Finally, I fell asleep – but not for long. After 2 hours of interrupted sleep I woke up around 2am.

I quickly figured out at that point that I wasn’t just having cramps, I was actually having contractions. By the time I realized what was going on, they were less than 4 minutes apart. I woke Josh around 2:30 and told him “It was time”. He took a second to wake up but then we were both like a whirlwind getting things together.

I called the hospital to let them know I was in labor, and they directed me to call my clinic before coming in. So that was my next call. The person who answered at the clinic after hours service paged the on-call doctor for me. Dr. Maag called me back within 10 minutes. She told me to go ahead and make my way to the hospital. Josh got on the computer to get directions to the hospital, we didn’t want to get lost downtown Mpls and end up giving birth in some back ally because we got lost. Now, what to do with Morgan?

My parents weren’t due to arrive at our place until late afternoon on Saturday so we had to make alternate plans. Our neighbors told us they could watch Morgan, but I just couldn’t bring myself to call them at 2:30 am. They had been watching Toby all week because he kept escaping his “room” downstairs and was making a mess. So, I decided to call my cousin, Carla. She lives in Buffalo, which is about 10 miles away. She had called Friday night to see if Morgan wanted to come over on Sat. to play with Serena (my other cousin’s daughter). I figured I’d call Carla since Morgan was supposed to go there anyway. We woke Morgan up and explained to her what was going on. She was in a sleepy daze and I’m not sure how much go through to her, but she was excited to go see Serena and stay at Carla’s house. It was much easier to leave her knowing she was excited.

The hospital I was going to deliver at was downtown, more than 40 miles from our house. It was pouring rain, like in a movie. We had to drive a bit slower because of all the standing water on the highway, so it took us about 40 minutes to get to the hospital. We saw at least 6 highway patrol; thankfully they were all on the other side of the highway. I remember telling Josh to hurry up, and said that if we get pulled over I will just call the 911 dispatcher and tell them what is going on and hope they escort us to the hospital instead of issuing a ticket. Unfortunately, he could only go so fast because of all the rain.

Josh dropped me off at the ER entrance, and went to park the car. I decided to wait for him as we had a long walk – clear across the hospital to the West side where the maternity ward was. It was a VERY long walk, with a few stops along the way during contractions. Once we got to the maternal assessment center (MAC), they had all my paperwork ready for me to sign when I walked in.

After I completed the paperwork, I was led to one of the assessment rooms. By this time it was 3:20am, and my contractions felt like they were right on top of each other. They were around 2 minutes apart and the pain was increasing with each contraction. I was already dilated to 6+ when they did the initial assessment for me. Since I had been planning a C-section, I wasn’t prepared for normal labor pains. I kept asking for some medications, but since I was going to have a repeat c-section they were waiting as long as they could to give me medications because I had an epidural coming for the surgery anyway. The medication they did finally give me, didn’t really help much. It just helped me relax in between contractions but didn’t take away the actual contraction pain. Once the on-call doctor got there, she got things moving a bit quicker. I neglected to tell her that I was supposed to have a c-section – that would have gotten things moving even quicker if I had done that when I talked to her earlier. Around 4:30 I was moved into the O.R. From there, everything moved really quickly!

It all happened so fast it’s pretty much a blur. I got into the OR and remember it being very BRIGHT. I was moved to the operating table and I remember having constant contractions, they seemed to never stop. I got the spinal block while having a huge contraction, and then all of a sudden it was over. The block took effect before I could even lay down flat. They had to move my legs for me because I couldn’t feel anything. The mood in the O.R. was great, everyone was calm and happy – not like the c-section with Morgan. That one was rushed and felt much more serious. Miina was born within 15 minutes of the start of the operation. I heard her screaming right away. I started crying because I was so happy she was healthy. As she was screaming I just called out her name and started talking to her while they were doing their assessment. She stopped crying as soon as she heard my voice. It was such a nice feeling. They brought her over to me and I just talked to her and gave her kisses. The doctor actually encouraged Josh to take pictures of the operation, and Miina as soon as he wanted. He got some shots of the surgery itself, and then of course, of Miina in her first few seconds. They gave Josh some time in the OR to just sit and hold Miina. Then he went with her while they did their tests on her.

Shortly after Miina was born, I felt this horrible chest pain. It felt as if someone was sitting on my chest and it was very difficult for me to breathe. I kept telling the nurses and the nurse anesthetist, but they all told me I was fine and it was normal. Sure didn’t feel normal to me. I remember laying there thinking, “I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe”, but then I remembered I was on oxygen and that helped me calm down. There were a few times I panicked and worried something was wrong. I was drifting in and out by this time. Every once in a while the nurse anesthetist would nudge me and wake me up to tell me to breathe. Thank GOD I had that oxygen on.

When I woke up, I was in recovery with Josh standing next to my bed. I was the only patient in there, so it was very quiet. The nurse had to check on me every half hour so it was a bit tough to rest while she was doing that. I was very groggy, yet couldn’t sleep very well. I think I was excited and wanted to get out of recovery and into my room as quick as possible. After I was more awake they brought Miina in so I could feed her. It was very nice to see her and she took her bottle very well. She seemed very tired too!

From recovery I was moved to the labor and delivery area. There were no rooms available in the post-natal wing, so I had to go there. The rooms are very nice and HUGE so we didn’t mind. I was in the first room on the floor so I was close to the hallway, but we could still hear all the women in labor screaming. There was on woman in particular who seemed to be having a very painful experience. We stayed in that room most of the day. I was still having a lot chest pain, but the medication seemed to help a lot.

After resting for a few hours, my room was ready on the other side of the OB floor. I was feeling ok, so they let me ride in a wheelchair to my new room. Josh pushed Miina to our new room in her little bassinet. The ride was a little painful for me, every time we hit a bump in the carpet or a floor joint, I felt it everywhere!

The new room was nice and big! Much bigger than the one we had with Morgan. We were both pretty tired when we got to our new room, but we didn’t get to rest much. The new nurses took over and did all their routine checks on me and Miina before we got to get settled in. Miina was a great baby when it came to just about everything they did to her. The only thing she really protested to was having her temperature taken. Even though it was under her arm, she fussed every time. Nothing else seemed to bother her. She was the perfect baby, at least for the first few exams.

I was still on IV fluids, and very little pain medication. They let that run its course and then I switched to oral Percocet, as needed. I was only taking half a pill each time I was offered because I didn’t like the groggy feeling I was getting. I was already tired from the surgery and all the drugs I was on for that, Percocet was making it worse. I didn’t want to take a full one and try to walk or take care of Miina, so I reserved the full pills for night time, when I knew Josh and the nurses could help me if I needed.

I was up and walking around by mid-afternoon and feeling pretty good. The nurse said she would remove my catheter. I was very happy to get that thing over with, and it helped me move around better – which also made me feel better. I had to keep my IV for a while longer, as I wasn’t going to the bathroom enough and they were worried I would become dehydrated. Given the fact I had been on IV fluids since 4am that morning, and I wasn’t going nearly as much as I should have (even with the catheter) I had to suffer with the IV a little longer.

My parents were on their way down from Hibbing, and had to stop in Buffalo to get Morgan from my cousin’s house so she could come and see Miina. They got there just before 9pm. Morgan walked in and didn’t really know what to think at first. She saw my IV and it scared her a little. I tried to make things as comfortable as possible, I was sitting up in a chair so she wouldn’t be scared of me lying down in the bed. After a while she was more interested in the IV, but avoided it when possible. She was so tired, from a long day of playing with Serena, and then it was close to bed time. She did really well with Miina. She gave her kisses and hugs. She clung to my dad as much as she could and kept staring at my “owie”, she called it. My parents got to hold Miina a little bit and then were on their way. Josh, Miina and I got ready for bed after they left.

The nurses have to do their checks all throughout the night. They come in, wake us all up and thankfully, bring me medication! That is my reward for getting poked and prodded a few times each night. They also have to do checks on Miina, so they took her to the nursery for about half an hr. They checked her weight and did whatever else they needed. By the time she got back, she was starving. Still barely making a peep – she just whined a little to let us know she was hungry. She was drinking almost a full 2oz by the end of the first day. Once she was done, we all went back to sleep. Since I was still in a lot of pain, Josh did most of the work the first night. He got up with her and fed her.

Sunday morning I had the same nurse, and nursing assistant. After talking a bit, she and I both realized she was one of my nurses from when I had Morgan. She and the nursing assistant were both very nice, and it helped make us feel that much more comfortable. I was able to get the IV out of my hand that morning. I really didn’t want Morgan to see that because it made her so uncomfortable the day before. I took a quick shower and get dressed, which was also important to make Morgan feel a little better. The shower felt GREAT! It took a long time as I was pretty dizzy and had to go slow, but still felt great. After my shower, the doctor came in to visit and check on my incision and such. Everything was looking great, and all was well – except for my iron levels. There was a concern that I had lost blood, and it wasn’t generating as it should. She ordered an iron supplement and the nurse brought me some information on iron fortified foods. Oh YUM. Liver ….ummm, no thanks!

Miina’s doctor came in and did her daily exam, which was fine. Miina just let her do whatever she wanted, didn’t make a peep. She was a model baby. It was also Miina’s first official bath. Again, not a peep. She let the nurse do whatever she wanted. She almost enjoyed it, especially when she was washing her hair. That’s pretty much how she was the entire time we were in the hospital. Every time the nurses had to check on her, she just went along with it. She never really cried much at all.

After lunch my parents brought Morgan up. I had gotten her a book that turned into a castle with paper dolls, that Miina gave her as a big sister gift. She and Josh played with that for a good hour and half. They were princes and princesses from the popular Disney movies. Morgan finally felt comfortable enough to hold her, a little. As my parents were leaving, my cousins came up so everyone stayed and the kids played in the room for a while. My cousins each got Morgan a big sister gift, along with her birthday gift so the girls (Morgan and Serena) were busy playing with those for a while. My parents and my cousins took the girls to Space Aliens (Morgan’s favorite restaurant) for dinner that night. Josh went home Sunday night because he needed to go into work Monday morning to do a few things. It was to be my first night alone with Miina. I was a little nervous, but figured the nurses were around so I would be just fine. Josh left me some movies, so I just watched those and napped off and on though the night. I tried not to take any pain pills because I was on my own. Most of the pain I did have was from surgery, the pain in my shoulder (shoulder strap pain).

Around 3:30am the nurse came in to do rounds and caught me sleeping in bed with Miina. I just didn’t feel comfortable getting up, or leaning over to put her into the cradle, so I let her sleep with me. I got the same lecture when I had Morgan. The “I have to tell you this, but I don’t really care” type lecture…heheh. Hospital liability and all that. After she was done checking on me, she took Morgan to the nursery and checked her weight and did her vitals there. I couldn’t sleep so I got up and went for a walk. I was moving very slow so I barely made it around to the nursery by the time she was done – so I walked Miina back to our room. By then she was hungry and my slow walking wasn’t making her very happy. After she ate, she went right back to sleep.

Since Josh only worked half a day, I decided to wait until he got there to take a shower instead of asking the nurses (who are already busy) to watch Miina. I got another visit from my doctor. My iron was still very low, which at this point was causing some concern to her. She ordered another lab test and told me to continue with supplements. Miina’s doctor also came in. The rest of the day was pretty busy, my parents came up with Morgan. They all left shortly before dinner, so Josh and I just rested for the rest of the evening. We cuddled up in my bed and watched a movie, and then a little TV and we were off to sleep. We went to bed early because we knew that I was getting out the next morning. I was looking forward to getting home and getting back to normal.

Tuesday I had a new nurse, one I hadn’t seen before. All I needed was my doctor’s ok, and the ok from Miina’s doctor and we were good to go. I knew it would be a while before they came in, so I ordered breakfast. Miina’s doctor came in and said she was perfect (as we already knew) and was fine to go. No follow-ups needed, just schedule her to be seen in 2 weeks for a normal visit. The doctor I normally see (saw throughout my whole pregnancy) finally saw me on Tuesday. This was the first time I’d seen her since my last scheduled appointment with her. She was also a bit concerned about my low iron levels, but said I could go home as long as I went to her office and had a lab draw done in one week, giving the supplements time to work. I asked her what would happen if the supplements didn’t work. She said that the worst case scenario would be a transfusion. Not a complete one, just more like adding blood I lost – not actually transfusing all the blood in my body. I wasn’t sure how I felt about that, receiving someone else’s blood?

Finally, the moment I had been dreading all weekend – the nurse came back to remove the staples. Although there were maybe 12-16 staples, it felt like there were 30. It hurt SO BAD! She got all of them out except one. I had to ask her to stop because I couldn’t even breathe anymore. I needed a break. She went in search of someone who could help, and ended up running into my doctor in the hallway. Thankfully she was still there. She was able to get it out with little trouble. It still hurt like crazy, but at least it came out.

As wussy as it sounds, I needed some time to recover from that. I lay in bed for about half an hour to regroup. Once I was feeling better, I ordered some lunch and decided to take a shower. Once I was done eating, the nurse had all my discharge papers ready for me to sign, along with Miina’s. We got all packed up, and got Miina dressed and were on our way.

She was so tiny in her little seat. I sat in the back with her to make sure her little head didn’t bounce all over the place. It was a very long and painful ride home for me. I felt each and every bump we went over. Miina, however, slept through the whole thing.

On the way home I couldn’t help but think about how our lives were changed forever. We were so blessed to have 2 beautiful, healthy children. There is no way to know how things will turn out or how exactly our lives will change over the next few years, but we are very excited to welcome Miina into our family and can’t wait to see what changes she brings! Welcome to the family, Miina!!!

We love you,
Daddy, Mommy and Morgan

Fun Weekend

We had a nice, relaxing weekend around the house. Friday we stopped at the store to pick up a few things, including dinner on the way home from work. Morgan wanted to ride the big bikes, so she and Josh did that for a while. She is so good at the “big” bikes. She picked out a cute little summer dress for a whole $3 so she was excited, I had to get it for her – she NEVER cares about clothes let alone pick our something for herself. We had to beg her to pick out a swimsuit – there were some really cute ones, but she wasn’t interested in them much.

Saturday we just hung around the house and cleaned up a bit. Josh took Morgan to the grocery store with him, which is always one of her favorite things to do. Of course she got a new dinosaur (all toys were on sale). She was excited. After lunch she and Josh went outside to clean cars. By the time I got out there, the sun was out and it was beautiful! Morgan was finishing up Josh’s car (he had already washed it), and she was soaked. Then Josh washed my car and soon Morgan was helping, along with the neighbor boy, Bryan. It was so nice out that I even managed to get a little sun burn on my arms and neck. The only two places I didn’t put sun screen.

Sunday was another nice, warm day. We decided not to go to church and just did some things around the house. I decided to clean up the babys room a bit, get everything out of there that didn’t belong. My cousin called just before lunch and asked if Morgan wanted to go play with her neice. Every time they play together, they have a ball – they get along so well. We dropped Morgan off there and took advantage of the free time and went to see Indiana Jones. We figured it would be the last time for a while that Josh and I could go on a date before the baby is born. The movie was good, and Morgan had a fun playdate! Each time Morgan is over there, I worry a bit that she’ll come home and ask to get a cat. My cousin has 2 and she just loves to play with them (well, one, the other one hides) Morgan crashed on the way home, one minute she was playing with her horses in the backseat, and within less than 20 seconds, she was sleeping. When we got home our neighbors were outside playing so she woke up quickly so she could go play. I was beat, so I went and just rested in bed for a while. Of course I’m sure I dozed off once or twice, but it was just so nice to have the windows open and the breeze was refreshing! I could hear the kids playing and running around – then I heard the water guns. At first they just sprayed the house. I thought for sure someone would miss the house and spray the window and I’d get wet. Sure enough, evetnaully it did happen – but it was JOSH who sprayed me. Needless to say, as soon as I got out there I got a hold of one of the guns and he got his due. The kids had a ball with those water guns. They played for at least an hr. Then they moved on to riding their trikes/bigwheel type things on the driveway so I just sat in a chair and played with Toby while I kept an eye on them. It was very nice and relaxing. They all like to play with Toby so I had to keep him calm so he wouldn’t jump up on them. He gets excited when they want to play. He’s learning not to jump on the little kids – but once in a while gets a bit excited and forgets. We ate dinner and then headed out for a family walk. Toby needed some good exercise and training, and I needed to do what I could to induce labor…that didn’t work, but we were all nice and tired by the time we got back. By then it was still close to 80 with a slight breeze, which made it tollerable……..that is NOT a complaint!!

Josh watered the yard when we got back, and Morgan was so warm she just starting running through the sprinklers. She was completely soaked when she was done – fully clothed – so we just stripped her and tossed her in the tub. She was so tired she was out before 8:30. We even gave Toby a bath because he was playing in the grass so much that his paws were green, and so was his belly. It was funny to roll him over to scratch his tummy and see he’s all green. But he loves to lay in the grass/sun and just rest. He was exhausted too. He didn’t get much sleep and all the kids played with him so after he calmed down from the high of getting a bath (running around the house like a crazy dog), he crashed for the rest of the night. He didn’t budge once he was out. I wish I could say the same for us, Josh and I were both miserable last night because it was hot and neither of us could get comfortable.

OB Week38

I had my normal weekly OB visit today. All is normal. I have not progressed any further than the last visit. Still at 4cm. My doctor doesn’t seem concerned about anything and just said that if I go into labor – to give them a call at the clinic. Otherwise, I’d see her next Monday at my 39 wk visit (which is the day before my c-section).
My weight was good, gained one pound. I’d been having so many contractions and other pains that I asked them to test for a possible bladder infection or UTI, which came back negative. The same thing happned with Morgan – the baby is putting so much pressure on all the muscles that I have spasms or cramps and sometimes it feels like I have a UTI. Thankfully I don’t.
Last night was the most horrible night I’ve had yet. I couldn’t get comfortable at all. The baby kept moving so much she was almost making me sick – and then her movements would cause either contractions or cramping/spasms. I would just drift off to sleep and I’d get a pinch in some nerve or feel like I had to go potty – but then couldn’t because of how she was positioned she was pinching some nerves. Very frustrating night. When I would finally doze off, Josh started snoring or I’d have a contraction, or have to go potty – again. I think I was up at least 6 times to go to the bathroom – partly just to move around and get the baby to move out of the position that was causing pain. She’s an active baby, but never as much as last night. I’m greatful she’s so active – it means she’s healthy but now I’m having a tough time staying awake at work….haha, like I need a bad night sleep for that.
We are starting to get more and more excited that I could go anyday now, and knowing that even if I don’t – I’m soon done with work and only a week away from the c-section.
